Even in the Standard 2021 edition, Microsoft Visio remains the best tool for designing diagrams in companies and using common industry standards such as IEEE as a guide. In addition, Microsoft has made thousands of detailed improvements and introduced new features to make it easier to work on projects in larger teams. The software is therefore explicitly aimed at professional users. Nevertheless, the familiar easy entry into the program remains, which is achieved primarily through countless templates and the tried-and-tested Microsoft Office interface. Every buyer still receives 2 GB of free storage space on Microsoft’s own cloud solution OneDrive.
In Microsoft Visio Standard 2021, diagrams can be generated immediately after starting the program: Hundreds of templates based on a selection of more than 250,000 shapes ensure this. Since the desktop application also constantly updates itself, new templates are added regularly. Users then share finished diagrams not only as Microsoft Visio data sets, but also over the Internet: Microsoft Visio Standard 2021 supports web-based representations of diagrams or output as a PDF file for users who do not use Microsoft Visio on their device. Comments that other users then leave in the diagram are also immediately seen by the creator of the project and thus receive feedback.
Specifically for Microsoft Visio Standard 2021 and Microsoft Windows 10 or 11, Microsoft has also improved support for touch input and pens such as the Microsoft Surface Pen. This allows diagrams to be refined using natural input methods by using virtual ink or fingers to color shapes, move them, and rearrange diagrams. This also makes it easier to use the program on a tablet such as the iPad Pro, for which a separate app is available in the official Apple Store. To better collaborate with other people, the annotation functions have been improved and the integration of Skype for Business into the program interface has been expanded.
